Pembina Pipelines increased the flow capacity of the Cheecham Lateral from 900 m3/h (136 kbpd) to 1,524 m3/h (230 kbpd) to meet Shipper's demand. The Cheecham Lateral is a 55 km (34 mile) long NPS 16 pipeline which originates at Pembina’s Algar pump station and terminates at the Enbridge Cheecham terminal. The pipeline transports both Syncrude (SYN) and CNRL Horizon Synthetic crude.
Algar Phase 2 Expansion consists of adding three in series pumps that are dedicated to pumping SYN product on the 24 inch Syncrude main pipeline, which originates from the Syncrude facility. Whaler was the general contractor for this project and was responsible for the Civil, Structural, Mechanical and Electrical scopes.
This project was completed safely on schedule and on budget resulting in a continued positive working relationship with Pembina.
