The Horizon Expansion increased the Horizon pipeline's capacity up to 250,000 barrels per day, which was achieved predominantly through the upgrading of mainline pump stations and other facility modifications. Whaler completed the brownfield construction on this project and was responsible for the Civil, Structural, Electrical and Mechanical Construction at Pembina’s existing Horizon Pump Station. Whaler demolished two existing pumps and then replaced them with four new ones.
This involved close collaboration wh the operations team and was completed one pump at a time as the facility was required to be operational the entire time. With the challenge of an operational facility, this project was completed safely on time and on budget.
