The Rocky Ridge Recreation Facility is located atop the tallest natural elevation hill in Calgary, boasting spectacular views of the Rocky Mountains and the City of Calgary from within. Designed to complement the surrounding landscape, the facility is considered “a building within a park” and the reflective exterior cladding changes colour with the seasons. Built on a reconstructed wetland, the facility encourages outdoor activities through various pathways and trails that connect to archaeological sites, wetlands, and regional pathway systems.
The facility provides residents in Northwest Calgary a space for gathering, community art programs, and wellness opportunities. Some of the amenities include 8 lane competition pool, leisure pool with wave system and waterslide, multi-purpose ice rink, 3 full gymnasiums, fitness centre with cardio and strength training, fitness studios, and a 160m running/walking track. It is also home to the first self-service model library in Calgary.
LEED Gold Certified
Some of the sustainable technologies incorporated into the building are co-generation units and low flow fixtures throughout.
Trotter & Morton acted as Prime Mechanical Contractor and executed all plumbing and sheet metal scopes on the project.
