Starting in 2011, the University of British Columbia started to replace its aging gas fired steam plant with a hot water District Energy Centre and replaced 14 kilometers (8.7 miles) of steam piping. This new District Energy Centre feeds over 150 buildings on the University of British Columbia’s campus and increases its energy efficiency by 24%.
Trotter & Morton installed 3 new 50,000MBH boilers achieving 45MW of thermal energy to meet the current demands of the University, with the potential to add a 4th boiler to the system.
